The tech company Lytro Inc is famous for their light-field camera. In fact, they were the first to introduce such a camera in the consumer market. And, indeed, the Lytro light-field camera is now one of the fastest selling electronic gadget. A light-field camera as the name suggests captures the entire light field data when taking a picture, while a normal camera can only take the 2D range of data.
Without getting into the technical details, while your normal camera takes a picture, the light-field camera captures as much information as it can from the incoming light. With this information, you can later use the Lytro software to create one picture or a series of pictures focusing on different parts and even from different angles.
Using Lytro cameras on a Windows system
The software that comes with the Lytro light-field camera was not compatible with Windows OS. Many Lytro owners, who use Windows operating system, were not able use the application. Visiting the Windows tech support website was of no help, as the manufacturer themselves had not released Windows-compatible software.
However, this is no longer the case. Lytro has now released a software application for the light-field camera that is compatible with Windows operating systems. The company recently released the application that would run on all versions of the Windows 7 64-bit OS. This application is only for the 64-bit Windows 7 versions – Windows 7 Home, Ultimate and Professional.
Those, who are using the Windows 7 32-bit OS, would have to wait until the release of the 32-bit version. It is expected that the company would soon release a few more versions of the applications for the other Windows operating system in the coming months.
If you are using the 64-bit Windows 7 OS, then you can download this new application online for free – assuming you already have a Lytro camera. Now, you can upload all the pictures you have taken using the Lytro camera to your laptop and use the software to generate pictures by changing the focus or the perspective.
The Lytro light-field camera is now available in 8 GB and 16 GB versions, which costs $399.99 and $499.99 respectively. The 8GB version can store up to 350 pictures, while the 16 GB version would store about 750 pictures.
If the Lytro app is not installing correctly in your Windows 7 64-bit OS, you need to contact the Windows tech support services online.
